My Quiet Sunday Morning

Ya ya, it's Thursday and I'm talking about Sunday. How time flies. I have been coming down with a cough or something. I'm either on the verge of beating it or just about to succumb to it.
So about Sunday. Late morning around 10 or so, I suppose. I was on my rigorously regimented bachelor's diet and heating up some leftover pizza when all of the sudden, the smoke detector goes off. Now keep in mind this is not the first time I've done this so I was very surprised by the noise. I rushed to get a ladder and try to fan the detector or push that button.
All of the sudden, the fire alarm for the ENTIRE condo went off and it was TREMENDOUSLY LOUD! I rushed downstairs to the front desk to tell them it might have been me and that there was no fire. They could not shut the alarm off! The firetruck came, firefighters went into my unit and saw no problem... and the alarm was still ON! It stayed on for over half an hour and when they managed to kill it, it didn't stay dead for a while. :( :(
Later that day, the security guard came by with a repair guy to fix my alarm. He told me I ruined his morning and insulted me for my suite's untidiness. C'mon guy, it's Sunday morning and I was going to clean up after breakfast. Where's the fire?

Oh, Miss Vickie's Jalapeno Potato Chips! You used to be so hot and I would buy you so that I would not eat too much at a time. Now you are not so hot anymore. Almost regular. Have my senses dulled or are you withholding your spiciness from me?
Late Life Food Allergies

What's up with that? I started getting allergic to apples, pears and cherries in my mid-20s. Now I think I am allergic to crabs. I had some Vancouver crabs on Sunday and got itchy and breaking out with "mosquito bites" that very night. And if I'm honest to myself, I'm a *little* allergic to durians too. :(
None of these allergies are life-threatening. My throat doesn't close up or whatnot. But they irritate or itch enough to negate the enjoyment of the food.
Let's hope I never get allergic to chocolate. Yes that would be bad.

Ugh. Are you like me? A love and hate affair with coffee?
In the beginning, I feel down, slow and all used up and one aromatic cup will lift me. Then I start getting a cup in the morning to clear the cobwebs and one after lunch to fight the siesta time sleepies. Sooner or later, it catches up to me, giving me jitters and anxiety. So I stop and the separation is a relief. I find a new calm. I'm okay. I'm good.
... until after one late night, I feel down and slow in the morning again ...

Feb 15th and life might get better.
I ordered the iRiver iHP-140 mp3 player last week and picked it up last Thursday. It is not perfect. It has its quirks, but I will love it. ;) It will hold 40GBs of my mp3s, which is about two thirds of my music. I think it is better than the iPod for me.
After 3 years, my cell phone is looking long in the tooth and I am getting offers for an upgrade. If I ever (when I) bite and get a shiny phone with customizable rings, I think I know what I will choose. You know that little tune you hear in your corner store when someone checks a winning lottery ticket? Ya that. :D Umm... not that getting the phone call is like winning the lottery for me. People do call me. Really!

In Chinese, it sounds like "Certain Death"! Oh how I wish I could hibernate until it is all over! And then like a groundhog I will pop my head out of the hole... "Is it over yet? Is it spring yet?"
If Hallmark can manufacture a holiday such as this, why can't they create a Single's Day for old dogs such as me? They can sell Happy Single's Day cards and make a fortune. Except you buy this card for yourself because no one else would buy you a card! ;P
